| Description: | AUTOTROPHIA is a live immersive performance bringing together real-time sound and visual creation. Led by Safia Nihil (analog live ambient music) and multimedia artist Line Katcho (live generative video projections), the project offers a synesthetic experience where experimental electronic music and evolving visuals remain in constant dialogue.
Presented at White Wall Studio on February 28, AUTOTROPHIA unfolds through two 45-minute live performances at 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM. Each performance is entirely unique: sonic textures and rhythms directly shape projected colors, forms and movement, while the visuals simultaneously feed back into the musical composition, creating an organic sensory feedback loop. The project explores the relationship between emotion and color, with each sonic sequence linked to a specific chromatic palette, guiding the audience through an abstract and immersive journey.
Safia Nihil, formed by DBY and Shadya, co-founders of Chez Kito Kat Records, draws from downtempo, breakbeat, modal jazz, acid and traditional Maghrebi music. The project was introduced to Canadian audiences at MUTEK Montréal 2025. Line Katcho, an award-winning Montreal-based multimedia artist, has presented her work internationally, including at Ars Electronica and MUTEK.
Practical information:
Limited capacity: 100 people maximum. Seated performance on the floor — shoes must be removed. No alcohol or food sold on site. All audiences welcome, queer-friendly space. Access via stairs only (no elevator). Audience members are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the performance to secure seating.
