toribio & mickey perez come together to present public service - a jubilant jamboree that has roamed throughout brooklyn over the last few years, stirring the soul time & time again. its a gathering for the people by the people, traversing tracks from all corners, brimming with bountiful flavors of funk and groove.
toribio brings with him a lifelong musical background in percussion, education and practice in jazz, and a devotion to the sounds of his dominican roots. through the teachings of luminaries like danny krivit and masters at work, toribio's selections are magically musical and soulful, a dancefloor master by all metrics. ps - his band conclave released one of the best album's we've heard in many years.
chicago born & miami raised, mickey pérez is a first generation american of cuban & ecuadorean descent who’s continues to lay-down the funkiest rhythms from africa, south america, brazil, + the caribbean. providing riveting rhythms steeped in timeless tones, genre forms no barrier for mickey, who can plays it all with style and grace.
detroit’s deon jamar represents a generation of musicians carving their own path in the d. he honors the lineage of the city’s iconic originators such as theo parrish, while building a presence fully of his own within the scene that his given the world of electronic music so much. deon’s debut album ‘altars’ shines light on his masterful sense in the studio, and behind the decks he breezes through jazz, funk, & soul, to more modern black dance music forms like hip-hop/r&b, house, techno, & broken beat.
