About The Artists
The Ladies Of The Canyon
are musical serendipity. The all-female quartet, consisting of Jasmine Bleile, Maia Davies, Anna Ruddick, and Senja Sargent.The strength of the quartet is the diversity: this is a democracy, with no front woman and no egos. Their unique voices compliment each other beautifully when in harmony. Whether it's Bleile's elegant jazzy vocals, Davies's singing soft and sweet or belting it out, or Sargent singing blues with an authenticity one doesn't expect to hear from anyone as young as her, there is something for everyone. And with three songwriters in the band, four members with varied backgrounds and musical influences, a group like this can only feed off the diversity and grow. Chis Velan
Chris sings of little things and big things. But whatever the size of his lens, this Montreal-based singer-songwriter has been raising ears with his wide-eyed, reggae-influenced folk-pop. His latest album entitled, "Twitter, Buzz, Howl", released in November, 2005, dishes out a collection songs that weave storytelling, social inquiry and a desire to find beauty and meaning in the everyday, mundane and difficult sides of life.
Chris has followed up his stellar performance at the 2006 Montreal Jazz Festival with shows on both sides of the border that will continue into 2007. Keep your eyes open for upcoming shows in your area. [www.myspace.com]
Current Swell
Current Swell, based in Victoria BC includes Scott Stanton, Dave Lang, and Louie Sadava, all originally from Alberta, with Chris Petersen recently being added on drums. The band has been together for over 3 years, writing together for over 5 years and, since congregating in Victoria, have found their own style of music from the coast.
2005 saw Current Swell releasing So I Say, which quickly gained momentum leading the band to be one of the hottest new acts from British Columbia.The band has performed with some great acts including Bedouin Soundclash and Xavier Rudd. They toured Western Canada in the spring of 2007 with headlining Aussie band, The Beautiful Girls. Current Swell boasts loyal and devout fans across the nation and globe, which is fuel to the fire, and will be on another national tour throughout the summer while plans are made for tours in the United States and Japan.
