...and now, a word from Mike D :

I’m pleased to announce that thanks to a generous sponsorship from Puma, I’ve been able to organize a party with Turbo Recordings this coming Friday at the Just for Laughs Museum! What makes this distinction about sponsorship important is that it means a number of things can happen that would otherwise be impossible. It means that the bookings can be great; it means that the sound system can be the best; it means that we can do things like a great visual show and get the Lord of the Marionette to resurrect the dancing puppet after a 3 year hiatus to make the vibe extra special. It means the ticket price can be affordable at $10 presale and $15 at the door, but most of all, it means that people like me and Thomas Von Party and A Fly Is On The Wall, people that care about the quality of the event much more than padding our bank accounts, can afford to bring you something that is special, that is for MONTREAL, and that will bring a bunch of English and French, NU and OLD skool ravers, newbies, cynics, burnouts, and people who otherwise feel like big parties have become somewhat boring, the first of what hopes to be many, many parties this year with some fresh energy and love injected into them.

Here’s how it’s going to work:

At 10pm this Friday, May 11th, the elevator at the Museum will open onto the 4th floor. This is the mezzanine which overlooks the massive 3rd floor space. P-Thugg from Chromeo will be djing and the booze will be flowing so come early! At midnight, we’ll open the stairs down to the 3rd floor and kick things off with Thomas Von Party and the Mind Vacuum visuals. He’ll be followed by D.I.M. & Proxy and the puppet!

It’s going to be a lot—A lot more than what you normally get when you attend a party—so don’t miss out on anything and come EARLY! Sure, you’re probably saying to yourself “it takes COURAGE to be one of the first few people at a party,” or “EARLY is the opposite of SEXY and COOL” We understand these concerns. We also know that COURAGE and SEXY CONFIDENCE can be easily substituted by BEING HAMMERED, and although your self-esteem issues might take years of therapy to fix, BEING HAMMERED can happen almost instantly with our help!

There are only 500 tickets for this thing and they’ll be going fast. Pre-sale tickets are available at Moog Audio and Reborn, or through me.

As a side note, nothing would make me happier than to keep throwing big + affordable parties in this city that couldn’t happen without funding. The more people in Montreal say they want it to happen, the easier it is to convince sponsors to fund these things!

Hope to see you there!

Mike

Here are the artist mini bios so that you can show up and talk like you’ve known about these artists since the beginning:

Proxy isn't Nu-Rave... he's REAL Rave... Russian style. He drops crazy KGBeats, and if our immigration officials feel safe allowing him to enter our borders with Weapons-grade sonic acid then it'll be a musical caviarfest. His debut 12" 'Destroy' got heavy plays by Tiga, Soulwax, Erol Alkan, he's just delivered an incredible remix of Chromeo, and he's hard at work on his debut album on Turbo Recordings, due late 2007.

d.i.m. has managed to stay in relative obscurity despite his close affiliation with uber-hot-wundersexy Boys Noize. He co-produces Puzique on Boys Noize Records and also produces Kid Alex. His debut on Turbo brought him to instant cult status in the techno world, it's not minimal, it's not nu-rave, it's not electro, it's no-nonsense Techno made by a no-nonsense Bavarian who can pound a club like he can pound a schnitzel... his follow-up 'Airbus Baby' is so devastatingly, frighteningly awesome that at loud volume it gives me acid flashbacks and I swear I can see the light. Massive support across the board from Ewan Pearson, Erol Alkan, MSTRKRFT, and everybody that likes techno with BALLS.

P-Thugg is one half of Chromeo, the only successful Arab/Jew partnership since the dawn of human culture. Teenage lovers, 20 something blogpoders, 30 something burn-out ex-raver “graphic designers” and 40 something sistas can all finally party under one roof...and that roof has a name, AND that roof is on fire, and the only ones who can put out that funk-fire also happen to be the guys the roof is named after: CHROMEO. Does analog synth wizard P-Thugg still rock nightgown-sized DipSet t-shirts, talk through a keyboard, and have the thousand-yard stare of a well-practiced gangster? You bet he fucking does.

Thomas Von Party - aka Lord of the Marionette - Von Party is a triple-threat as a puppeteer, dj, and visual showman... we know he's dangerously close to one-man band circus jester, but his monkey-like dancing, gaped mouth enthusiasm and vigorously bouncing jewfro are scientifically proven to create party vibes.
